Tomales Bay and Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 6-23-24

Bodega Bay Fishing Report 6-20-24

Strong north winds all week cooled down onshore water temps down to the mid 40s which made fishing a little slower today. In the morning we found a very slow rockfish bite. After checking many shallow spots we ventured to a slightly deeper area in about 110 feet of water and finally found blues and yellows willing to bite, we quickly gathered limits of rockfish with a few very good quality reds in the mix. Even with a lot of effort we had no success on lings.

Weather got a little worse for us on Friday. We got up to the ground and found tons of rockfish jumping at the surface and a near wide open bite. Unfortunately all 4 clients on the boat got immediately sick and wanted to return to the dock so we were unable to do much fishing.

Today we ran north with some great weather and found a wide open bite on rockfish with the light tackle in the morning. We gather limits of great quality blues and blacks on swimbaits and micro-irons safely releasing many small fish and keeping the bigger ones. We switched the gear over to lingcod with some bigger swim baits and managed to scrape up 3 lings and a few larger grade rockfish. A high action day with calm weather made for a fun day overall. We ran home with glassy seas at 30 knots. We needed to do some work on Sunday due to a faulty yet brand new trim tab motor so I did not fish on Sunday. But I did talk to a few boats at the dock who had limits of lingcod and said the fishing really picked up. Hopefully they will stay on the bite until we get out there next week as the water was warming up quickly.

Had a great day of fishing on Tomales Bay. Started late around 10am and fished until 6pm. Good steady action all day with epic weather! Ended with 6 in the box and a few other lost opportunities. Fish came from hog island all the way down to Marshall proper. All fish were caught on live sardines and smelt.

Ended up having another great day of fishing today!!… Brian, and his children opted to depart at 6am today, even though most of our fish came in the afternoon yesterday… we hooked a few sharks until the water started moving and the halibut started biting. We managed two in the morning with a couple other missed opportunities. Then literally an hour before calling it at 2pm, we stacked 4 more fish for limits!… yes I know, there’s only 5 in the group shot, but the last one came after we took the photo while cleaning up.

We caught our fish all the way from south of hog, to south of marshal…Fish bit live smelt and sardines.
