Tomales Bay and Bodega Bay Fishing Report 6-8-24
Wind and more wind.
Bodega Bay Fishing Report 6-8-24
With some not so great weather forecasted and a private charter who wanted a few fish for dinner we made our way north against the swell. I found green water in place of the clean blue water we fished on last week. Some south wind the day before had apparently pushed it all the way up the coast which in turn made it difficult to catch lings, but the rockfish were luckily somewhat hungry with the higher water temps in the mid 50s. We picked up about 40 rockfish pretty quickly for our group of 5 anglers, and also hooked 3 lingcod, loosing one at the boat and releasing many undersize. The rockfish were much better quality than we’ve seen all year, so the guys have plenty to do a good fish cookout. The action wasn’t wide open, but pretty steady and would have been fairly easy limits on the rockfish for a full day. A few guys started getting pretty sick so the group threw in the towel around noon and we headed home before the wind picked up and made the ocean real nasty. The forecast shows some big north winds for next week, so hopefully that green water will get replace with nice clear water so that the lingcod will be able to find our baits again. For now we can only cross our fingers and pray for the wind to back off.

Capt. Josh ran his first trip in the bay for the year. The bay was a lot calmer than the ocean, very much unlike the ocean. Here’s his report.
This last Saturday, I fished with Darrell of Tiburon with his son Cooper and Friend Jack. The localized wind out of the west/southwest and big tides made for tough fishing. we ended with 2 bites for 2 fish. Both fish came on straight bait (red label herring) in 20 feet of water. Started at 11:30am and fished until 6:30pm. First fish came around noon and the second fish came around 4pm. We fished everywhere from north of Marshall down to just above Millerton Point. Much better tides are coming this weekend, so our numbers should improve.
