Tomales Bay and Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 6-30-24
Bodega Bay Fishing Report 6-28-24
Winds remained strong right offshore all week, but we managed to get out there on Friday and look for some rockfish and lingcod. Swell was a bit lumpy, but the wind remained calm and the fog stayed offshore which made for a decently pleasant day besides the rocking and rolling around. We found a terribly slow bite in the morning. After checking many spots we found a group of biters in real shallow at about 11am, and picked up a fast limit of quality blues. We also picked up 4 lingcod for 4 clients, all on swimbaits, and released many undersize. Swimbaits seem to be the winning ticket this year for the lingcod and the massive amount of shorts we have been getting bodes well for the next 4 years of lingcod fishing. Typically lingcod over 10lbs prefer bait, but those larger model fish are typically not as common this time of year. Usually we see a shift of larger pre-spawn females around November in the shallows.

Bodega Bay Fishing Report 6-29-24
Similar weather and conditions as the day before, slow bite in the morning and hot bite around the mid day tide change. Exactly the same results with limits of blues and browns and 6 keeper lings for 6 clients. Everyone enjoyed the day with steady action after 10am.

From Capt Josh
“Fished with a friend this morning who had to bail at 10:30. By 12:00pm, I was limited out solo using live smelt and sardines. Fished south of George’s for most of the day.”
Also a note I want to add is that we will be offering some open live bait charters toward the end of the month, we are looking at July 17 and July 19 for those trips. Contact Capt Josh for more info as he is the halibut guy.

Tuna Time?
Looks like we are finally getting a break from this wind, and lots of it with 10 days of calm weather in the forecast for the first time since October 2023. Just in time for some lovely offshore currents to set up west of Bodega and Fort Bragg. Yesterday a handful of albacore were caught off Oregon so the fish are on the west coast already. The temp break is about 70 miles west of Bodega Bay, which is a bit too far to haul clients but I don’t mind making the run myself. My guess is the albacore are already out there, so If everything works out I will be running out to take a look and confirm that. The big bluefin are still in San Diego, with no wind I’d imagine they would start moving north quickly. If the wind remains calm. my guess is we will see bluefin by august, but they might already be offshore and there is only one way to find out. Keep a close eye on our social media and tuna list for updates as this calm weather will allow us and other boats to do some searching.
