SF Bay Halibut Fishing Report 6/13& 6/14

F/V Sorta Salty

6/13 – Captain Billy ran his trip in a hard south wind with Deckhand Cody. They managed to box a 30″ halibut and 7 stripers and many shorts before the day was done. Big tides are making for tough fishing right now. (no pictures were taken for this charter).

6/14 – I ran down to the bait dock in the same hard south that Captain Billy encounted the day before. After picking up a scoop of JP’s Bait (5-6″ average anchovy), we started our day off south of the pier. We hooked and boxed a nice halibut within the first 5 minutes of fishing, thinking it might get going. After burning a hole in our screen trying to pick up more in the same area, the bite had died and we shifted our efforts to bass for a minute. Grabbing a fish per rod we shifted back to halibut north of the pier for no bites. we then moved up to red rock with the same results. Making one more move, just south of the bridge on the edge of the ferry channel we finally found a pocket of fish. unfortunately there were many short fish and the couple opportunities we had on legal fish hooked, were lost.

Excellent tides are coming next week and we are predicting much better numbers due to the slow moving water. Here is a photos of Brandon Li’s only keeper Halibut of the day.
