San Francisco Bay Halibut Fishing Report Week of 4-21-24
After a Slow Start, Halibut Bite Goes Wide open
4-19-24
Capt. Josh ran north of the Oakland Airport and reported slower fishing with lots of boats mainly doing the same thing. They managed to scrape up 3 halibut and 1 striper, among many undersize fish. Luckily the Clients enjoyed the day on the water with great weather.

4-20-24
With the not so great results from the previous day, Capt. Josh stayed a little closer to home in the North Bay and managed to find an absolutely wide open bite. They got their first bite before the rod hit the bottom and quickly had limits for 5 clients and crew by 11 AM.

4-21-24
Capt. Josh returned to the same zone as Saturday. The bit had slowed down a bit, but it was still great fishing. They had to work all day for them, but ended up with limits for 6 clients and one crew fish. Another great day on the water with pleasant weather and good fishing.

Hopefully this marks the beginning of a great season for the SF bay. We will be returning to Bodega Bay for Rockfish and Lingcod on may 15th, so we are hoping to get as many days out of SF bay as we can until then. If your looking to catch halibut, now is the time to go and we surprisingly still have some room for our last few weekends in San Francisco Bay. On a side note, Salmon season has been officially closed for CA. Not the news we were hoping for, but we can only cross our fingers that wet years will provide good returns for next year. The random appearance of bluefin have all gone south after our harsh spring northerly winds have arrived. If we get a few weeks of calm winds, I expect to see them arrive in a hurry, but we wont know when it happens until it happens. The spring winds help provide upwelling and food for the baitfish the bluefin are here for, so its critical that we get a windy spring, but hopefully it only sticks around for the spring time and we get a mild summer.
