General Fishing Seasons Update 3/13/23
Spring Halibut Fishing in SF Bay ( Now until May 5th)
Starting this weekend Capt. Josh will be headed down to SF bay to run Halibut/striper trips out of Point Richmond. Those trips are available for booking online or by giving Capt. Josh a call. I’m going to set up Capt. Josh to post some weekly reports on here as he primary does the halibut thing.
Late Spring/Summer Rockfish and Salmon
We’ve been patiently waiting for 2 things that to be announced by the federally managed PFMC (Pacific Fishery Management Counsel).
The First is rockfish, as last year was tough for us with almost the entire year offshore. This year we are having a much friendlier season with some inshore and offshore mix.

Basically we get April Back for offshore only, and May to September for inshore only (roughly less than 120′ of water) with October and December back to offshore. November inshore so crab combos are now a lot more possible, I would consider this a big improvement from last year. We will get to chase some shallow during the summer and some deep when the weather is nice in October while the bluefin are around, and maybe some salmon in-between. Fingers crossed for another good tuna year as we will be chasing those as usual when the time arrives.
The Big question to remain is salmon. Here are the 3 options that are available that will be put fourth at the next meeting in April.

2 of 3 options are multiple short 3 day seasons. The 3rd option is no season, I have a feeling Alt II will be the one we get, but wouldn’t be surprised with Alt I and it would mean a lot better fishing for us in Bodega Bay. There is a quota, once that is crossed for the year we would be shut down. We will be posting dates as soon as we find out for sure what the seasons are.
Expect to see some halibut reports here over the next few weeks as we get back into fishing and we are looking forward to another exciting year.
