Capt. Josh ran a personal trip and found a quick limit of lings on a flat ocean. Great way to start off the year in Bodega Bay.

For my first trip of the year things started out slow with some choppy weather and very slow fishing but ended with limits of lings and blues. We searched many spots with slow fishing but found an area near a wash rock in very shallow and got onto a solid bite of mixed grade blues and a few blacks in the mix. After collecting some rockfish we switched over to lingcod and quickly picked up a nice limit for 5 clients of gorgeous blue lings up to 18lbs on a few drifts. The weather layed down in the afternoon and made for a really killer day to start the season with.

On Saturday we had a cancelation but managed to get enough folks to run a trip. I had high hopes after the previous day even thinking about a crew ling for dinner. The fish as always had to humble me. We ventured to the same area and found a very slow bite on rockfish and not much happening for lingcod. we scratched up 2 lingcod, and a handful of blue rockfish. after a few hours the bite never turned on for us, so I headed south and found a pocket of very hungry rockfish and we gathered up limits of quality blue and black rockfish on the light tackle which made for a great time. We never found the lings but managed limits of decent quality rockfish and had a whole lot of fun on the hot rockfish bite with the light tackle.

Captain Josh took another day to do some scouting in Tomales bay, for only a couple hours fishing the managed to pull 2 really nice halibut up and it sounded like he missed the better bite in the afternoon. The bigger one weighed in at a whopping 18lbs. Josh will start running Tomales bay trips on the 1st we will be adding those reports as well once he gets going.
We unfortunately had to cancel on Sunday due to some pretty big winds. It looks like we will be off the water until later this week due to some strong northerly winds which is pretty typical for may. We can only expect the fishing to improve from here as the temps rise.
