Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 7-15-24
Bodega Bay Fishing Report 7-10-24
From Capt Josh.
Fished as far north as timber cove and worked my way south Most fish came from 60 to 80 feet of water. They bit great on the smaller madame lures and shrimp flies. 76 mid grade rockfish, plus a couple nice verms, and 5 mid grade lingcod (which are the best eating size for lingcod, in my opinion).

We headed north with a strong south wind to our back. The fishing grounds have very choppy weather but luckily we had a steady bite of rockfish, we quickly gathered limits and managed to land 3 lingcod and a good size cabezon with a mix of nice blues and blacks. We fought the south wind for a few drifts on lingcod closer to home and the couldn’t find much more action.

After the trip Deckhand Cody and I went and poked around for a few halibut using live jacksmelt down by the mouth of Tomales bay in the evening, we landed 2 fish within a few drifts and lost many more including a big thresher or giant striper, whatever it was ran a lot faster than a halibut does. We unfortunately didn’t collect enough jacksmelt to fish for long and quickly headed in afterword to prep for the next day.

We headed north into a flat calm ocean and within about 10 minutes of dropping landed a hefty 25lb ling. After getting some live jacksmelt we moved deeper and found a wide open bite on good quality lings and quickly limited for clients and crew. We then switched over and found some decent quality black and blue rockfish to finish out the day. Weather couldn’t be better all day. Lingcod bite has been picking up and the fish are definitely getting bigger every day.

Another day of wide open lingcod fishing out of bodega bay. The ocean was flat as could be and the lingcod were willing to play. We fished about 100 feet of water and instantly started hooking lings on our first drift targeting them. After a few more drifts we quickly had 9 fish and the clients decided to head back early after a couple hours of fishing with one fish shy of limits. A few folks were not feeling great but still an overall great day with plenty of lingcod to go around for everyone.
