Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 7-8-24
Bodega Bay Fishing Report 7-3-24
On Wednesday we had sunny skies with balmy air temps in the upper 60s to low 70s and somewhat calm seas out of Bodega Bay. Most of us got to comfortably wear shorts and T shirts, which is a rare occasion. The fishing started out slow, but after checking many spots, we found a group of good blues and olives willing to play. Many fish were caught on the light tackle within the top 20 feet of the water column, making for chaotic action until we had all the fish the group wanted. We released many small rockfish but ended up at near limits for rockfish and 3 lingcod. Overall, an awesome on the water away from the heat and we are looking forward to a few days of calm seas for the first time this year.

Fishing was tough, went all the way to north looking for clean water and the best water I saw was further south. Lingcod were coming on frozen mackerel and the Rockies were coming on madame lure swimbaits. 7/6 stopped short just north of sunken and got limits of Rockies for 6 clients and 2 lingcod.

Fishing was better but still not wide open by any means. Water seemed to clear up a bit so we fished north in shallow most of the day.

On The Tuna Front
I jumped on a buddies boat to look for bluefin behind the Farallon islands, in short we found nothing but a good temperature change forming and burned a lot of fuel. But the boats out of Fort Bragg did very well on albacore. The next weather window we get Ill be towing the boat up. I went over this in more detail on our Tuna List email.

Bodega Bay Fishing Report 7-8-24
We left the dock early and headed north with a flat calm ocean. After arriving on the rockfish grounds far north in about 40 feet of water, we found a wide open rockfish bite on blues and olives. Everyone got to work and we quickly put in 6 limits within 30 minutes. After switching over to lingcod and moving out deeper to about 100 feet of water we immediately picked up 6 good quality lingcod and lost several more. The bite slowed down but we managed to scrape up another 6 healthy sized lings for limits. We are definitely seeing a big change in quality and quantity of both lings and rockfish as we see water temps rise.
