Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 7-27-25
Lingcod staying on the bite, halibut starting to join them. The bite is as steady as it gets in a good way. Albacore water to the north is looking really good and some good weather in the forecast to chase them. I expect within two weeks to have a report with some longfins involved. No ones been out the past week to look for bluefin to the south due to wind but I imagine they are still there, if not a little closer to us.

Same deal as its been. Headed north, wide open blues, hot lingcod bite, limits for both by noon. Quick day with a steep swell on things. Good day overall.

Took a fun day with some buddies and deckhand Cody to go out since we didn’t have any people booked. Flat ocean let us mess around in very shallow, less than 20′ of water most of the day, a few big cabs and lings all on swimbaits and jigs. Lings bit in shallow well and we got all the fish we wanted and then some. Another good day.

The clients for this trip had a big request; they wanted a few lings and a few halibut. Normally, I hesitated at the words bodega halibut as I’m not a huge fan of chasing them with their finicky nature. Water temps seemed right and there had been bait, so I figured today was better than any day and I had a feeling we could make quick work on the lingcod. We ran to our normal stomping ground and did our stomping: 6 limits of large lings by 11 AM and a good handful of rockfish. Then we went south and grabbed some nice 6″ herring, anchovies, and various types of smelt below the harbor—a perfect mix of baits. We then fished Tomales Bar and hooked a nice 10 lb halibut on the drop, and continued to lose 4 more with some big stripers or seabass not making it to the boat before snapping the line. Either way, something shiny and very big—maybe a salmon—since there’s been a lot of them around as well and we are getting plenty of those to bite even though we try to avoid them ( funny how that works) . We grabbed one more halibut and called it a day as the wind started to screw up our drift. Overall, a fun day, lots of action, some heartbreak, and tons of fish to go home with.
