Bodega Bay Fishing Report Week of 11-17-24
Offshore tuna bite remains wide open and the inshore rockfish bite was the exact opposite. Crab are still a bit hit or miss.
Bodega Bay Crab and Rock Cod Report 11-16-24
The saying you cant have good days without bad days really applied to the rockfish today, and today wasn’t a good day. Most of the charter boats agreed it was the worst rockfish bite we’ve had in the past 10 years. Red tides, big swells over the past week, full moon and big tides all aligned to shut down the rockfish bite, half limits of rockfish were something to be proud of as most boats were far from achieving that. Crabbing was good in the morning, we averaged 5 crab per hoop. Afternoon slowed down to 3 average as the tide started moving faster.
Bodega Bay Albacore Tuna Report 11-17-24
After the previous day of bad inshore fishing, albacore seemed like a viable option. The full moon can be hit or miss for tuna, Today it was very much a hit. We left the dock at 5am to a bright full moon and ran west at 22 knots. Hit a hard 5 degree break west of Bodega Canyon by 7:00 am, bite went wide open at 15X53. Got 25 fish by 11am until it dropped off to steady single hookups every 10 minutes or so, boats several miles above and below us were still getting big hookups but we stayed in our zone as we only wanted a few more fish. Called it at 30 fish by about 12:30 or so and pounded against some east chop for 30 miles to the hoops. Heavy drizzle and rain all day offshore making things wet and visibility pretty limited but the fishing kept everyone busy. Incredible to still be experiencing a wide open bite this late into the year. Grade was about 15lb average, with a handful of bigger fish over 25lbs and 2 jumbos over 30lbs. Crabbing was slow for us in the afternoon, but the morning combo trip did well on crab. The inshore rockfish bite sounded equally as poor as the day before. We have some serious storms approaching that are likely going to put a harsh stop to our offshore fun and push the tuna back to Japan. It was sure one hell of a way to end the year. We may get lucky and have some albacore or bluefin around afterword but its not looking great.
