Bodega Bay Fishing Report October
Well its been a long while since I posted a report. I went out of state elk hunting in New Mexico, then back here for a few days to drive straight up to Oregon for a few weeks to wrap up the archery season. I did get a few trips offshore in-between the hunts after processing my bull from New Mexico, but I had to spend some late nights driving around to make it all fit so I never got to type up a report. All of this extra wind gave me a little more freedom than I normally have to elk hunt. I also had a offshore Baja Spearfishing trip planned for this week that got canceled a few days before due to weather. So for the clients who are bummed about all canceled trips we’ve had this month due to wind, I get it. There’s was a few round trip seats plus hotels with my buddies and I name’s on them to Mag bay that were empty this week but none of us can control the weather.
I’ve gotten many dozens of text checking in and seeing what’s happening out on the tuna grounds and If I’m still alive and in the fishing business. Yes we are still here and attempting to go offshore and catch a tuna but the wind seems to doing all it can to prevent any chance of that. Offshore Its now been over 15 mph winds and over 10′ swell for about 40 consecutives days with a few less than 8 hour windows for the brave and motived folks to get out there. Numbers haven’t been great, but with only a few hours of rough weather fishing to go off of this month, its hard to say much.
To sum up what I haven’t posted, Fort Bragg the last week of August was the most epic tuna fishing I’ve experienced in my life. 50 to 70 fish days and back to the dock by 11 am. Jigs, trolling, and anything that was near the ocean got bitten. I think our best stop was 22 fish, with 18 fish on at once, a new personal record for 5 clients. We ended the month with over 350 albacore landed. Then September started out with a couple of decent days of 30 to 35 fish, and the wind showed up after that and has remained; that has been it for the offshore stuff. I’ve fished 4 days since September 1st, so yeah, windy is an understatement for this fall. Capt Josh has been running a lot of Lingcod trips, and it’s been wide open, and I even got one trip in this week so I can finally make a report myself.
Bodega Bay Fish Report – Week of 10-19-25
Capt Ryan- F/V Bigeye
The lings were wide open the past few weeks; if the swell was reasonable inshore and the wind was less than 10 knots, it was easy limits by 11 am in 100 feet of water. It slowed down toward the end of this week due to a big long-period swell, but still decent with a few fish shy of limits each day.

Here’s the results from my trip, my fiancé Kiley with her limit of two lings at 18 and 22lbs according the DFG scale, she out fished the rest of the boat with just a bass rod and rockfish gear. We ended up with 6 lings for 4 folks and several lings lings being lost at the boat. For a quick personal trip it was good fishing.

Capt. Josh had a wide open bite early in the week keeping on pace with the past month, then slower but still steady action as the swells picked up toward the weekend. Crab season is right around the corner and Ill be be back posting more as the ocean hopefully mellows out.
