Bodega Bay Fishing Report 7-6-25

Bodega Bay- 7/6/25

Capt Ryan- F/V Bigeye

We headed north into a sloppy ocean with dense fog. Knowing the weather would improve, we made the long ride north and found some clear and very cold 47-degree water further north than we had been fishing. We searched around in shallow water near some big wash rocks and eventually found a school of hungry blues. It took some searching, but once we found the school, it was game on, and we made quick work of some mid-size to jumbo blues. After that, we made our way deeper and looked for lings; we found a pretty sporadic bite, with the occasional hot spot providing good action with some flurries were we would get 5 or 6 bites withing 5 minutes. The lings were hit or miss, but luckily we had a good crew and were able to capitalize well on the few flurries we had. We had lots of bites in between the flurries, but the lings were sluggish, and they would let go after getting halfway off the bottom and were not fully hooked at all. We ended the day with limits of lingcod and one crew ling, with a few bigger ones in the 10 to 15 lb range and one fat 38.5″ ling, which was probably close to 25 lbs. The fog cleared, and the wind died around noon, making for a really good afternoon ride home. Overall a good day and another fun crew.

Capt Josh- Sorta Salty

We ended with 7 lingcod and limits of rockfish as well as plenty of missed opportunities. We started the day further south in shallow and found a spotty bite on blues and blacks before moving north to a bit deeper water and hitting a wide open bite on rockfish. We eventually moved up closer to Ryan and had the same action on lings ending the day a few shy of limits.
